Über die Veranstaltung
The little known Eugenics movement has to be of great concern for todays societies and for an intersectional feminist agenda. A Dangerous Idea claims that contemporary genetics is a resurgence of eugenics. And the film further states that genetic research has been, and still is, misused by dominant groups to justify their mistreatment of the oppressed and to resist progress in racial and gender equality.
The pseudoscience of Eugenics has been used for shaping societies in a patriarchal, racist and ableist way and for the oppression of entire demographics since its invention and at the same time is barely known to a broader public.
We want to change that and raise awareness about this genocidal pseudoscience and its continuities in todays thinking and research. We will screen the film and then have a discussion with Subhadra Das from Sarah Parker Remond Center/ UCL, UK, an expert on Eugenics and activist for the recognition of how todays institutions are deeply entangled with the history of the so called Eugenics movement.
