Über die Veranstaltung

We find ourselves at a critical moment. War, fascism, and the refugee and climate crisis are just a few of the problems we face. Instead of addressing the issues we are pitted against one another as the people in power grow richer.
Solidarity is a practice. We convene anti-racist/decolonial workshops that help us understand the connections between trauma and social, political, economic, and institutional oppression. To get clear not only on how our institutions reinforce white supremacist hierarchies, but how our positioning in that hierarchy is weaponized. By reconciling with our familial legacies, we will better understand how we are connected to and affect each other. We begin to map the terrain of power and vulnerabilities that we embody and express. We begin the process of dismantling our personal/familiar/communal trauma for greater clarity in how we are implicated in each other's oppression and positioned against one another.
The idea is to complicate the binary victim/perpetrator narrative to get a more nuanced picture of how oppression is manifested and maintained. In exploring our lineages we see that our ancestors were not just victims or perpetrators but both. That we are implicated in systems of oppression in ways we have yet to name or address. We are invited to develop a more nuanced understanding of how we uphold the institutions and structures we seek to dismantle. We do this to create possibilities for mutual struggle that prioritizes care of the most vulnerable and resist narratives that pit us against each other.
We are the ones we have been waiting for.
