SCREENING „And Still I Rise” in Kooperation mit dem Museum FHXB

Dokumentation über Maya Angelou (Coburn & Hercules; 2016; USA; 114 min)

Donnerstag, 24. Oktober 2024 • 18:30 – 21:30 Uhr

Born in 1928, Maya Angelou enthused generations with her bold and inspirational championing of the African-American experience that pushed boundaries and redefined the way people think about race and culture. Maya Angelou was captured on film just before she died in 2014, and this documentary celebrates her life and work, weaving her words with rare and intimate archival photographs and videos. This year marks the 10th annyversary of her passing.

It reveals hidden episodes of her exuberant life during some of America's defining moments, from her upbringing in the Depression-era south to her work with Malcolm X in Ghana and her inaugural speech for President Bill Clinton, the film takes us on a journey through the extraordinary life of this legend.

After the screening we are delighted to discuss the film and the person Maya Angelou with actress and activist Nicole Pearson who has been inspired and influenced by Maya Angelou as an Afro-American woman.

The screening is a cooperation of Frauenkreise & the Museum FHXB and will take place at the Museum:

Museum FHXB – Adalbertstr. 95A – 10999 Berlin-Kreuzberg
